Hello Ink Monster fans and fellow writers! The Ink Monster team just returned home from our whirlwind trip to Orlando, Fl and we are simultaneously invigorated and EXHAUSTED! (Cue 3 day nap!)
Next trip? – a tropical beach complete with cabana boys and rum drinks!
But all in all, it was an incredible week at the Romance Writers of America Conference (RWA2017) full of great workshops, wonderful people, and even a few Disney shenanigans. (If you haven’t been to Disney’s Animal Kingdom to visit the new Pandora attraction – GO! Right now! Aileen, Lola, and I were like little kids… we couldn’t stop talking about it. Seriously, it’s been a week and I still can’t shut up!)

Safari Mickey found us in Africa!

Ink Monster SELFIE!! (That kid in the background does NOT look amused! haha)
So aside from getting a chance to have some awesomely fun moments with (most of) our Ink Monster crew (we missed you Beth and Tricia!), we also had a chance to attend some really great writing and publishing workshops. One of my highlights was a writing craft module with the one and only Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Yes, cue fan-girl moment.
She spoke about how to create dynamic characters who are full of quirks and ticks, just like real people are! But even more than the awesome craft material she was providing, it was really fun to see such a playful and endearing side of such a wonderful and successful author. She was beyond charming and funny and she was able captivate a room full of people like it was no big thing. So yeah, she certainly solidified my place as a bonafide fan!
Other than that, we were just really grateful to have the time together as a team. Seeing as Aileen, Lola, and I are located all over the place, it was just great to have some bonding time. Lots of laughs. Lots of really amazing food! And lots of talk about our publishing future. We spoke about our goals and aspirations for Ink Monster and I think it was a really exciting time for all of us to speak about where the company was before, where is it now, and where we see it going. We truly thank you all for being along for the ride – we promise some incredible things coming down the pipeline in the very near future.
We’ll be riding high on this wave of inspiration and energy until we meet again. Which we all hope will be very very soon!
Xo,
Dani
